  -ABOUT JOHN ROSE-
In a cronical of 1631, there two instrument-makers with this name are mentioned, father and son. Uncertain however is wether the older one died in 1563. He lived in Bridewell near London and was of Italien origin.  He was a violmaker and a merchant of lutes since 1552.

His son, apprentice and successor John Rose jr. was one of the best viol and lutemakers according to the 17th century musicians. One of the few surviving instruments, is this lyra viol. He was buried in Bridewell on 29-7-1611, and probably lived there his whole life
