His mother Sibilia Barendts, widow of Jan Rombouts, married Violinmaker Hendrik Jacobs. Jacobs became not only his stephfather, but also his master and employer. After Jacobs’ death in 1704, he took over the workshop. In 1706 he married Magdalena Kruijskerck. She brought him a rich dowry. Thanks to that, they never had any financial problems: when his widow Magdalena died in 1750, their capital was estimated to be approximately 53.133,00 florins (25.000,00 euro) Pieter Rombouts was buried on 27-9-1728 (Note:According to Rene Vannes "Dictionnaire Universel des Luthiers" he died in 1749, Henley mentions 1740). |
